Cardiac Testing

Caffeinated Products

Patients who are scheduled for an adenosine (or persantine) myocardial perfusion stress test are asked to abstain from the following for a full 24 hours prior to their test:

· ALL coffee, tea, sodas, and hot chocolate (even decaffeinated products have small amounts of caffeine which may interfere with the test)
· Theophylline medications (discuss with your physician beforehand)

If you have COPD or Asthma or take theophylline (Theodur, Theochron) or dipyridamole (Aggrenox, Persantine, Dipridacot), please ask your doctor about special instructions. These medications are generally stopped 24-36 hours prior to the test.

If your test is scheduled before noon we ask that patients refrain from eating breakfast the morning of their stress test.
